Stop Shell: Who's Listening and Why to listen us?

The North Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean located between the Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Shell, which is an oil and gas company plans to dump parts of old platform with 11000 of oil and toxic waste in North Sea.

North Sea is already facing the worst impact of the climate crisis. This is the reason Sea level is rising and Some scientists are suggesting to Build a dam on North Sea that will be the largest engineering attempted on the planet and would cost anywhere $250 Billion to $550 Billion.

The biodiversity of North Sea is declining at a rapid rate. The fisheries Reserves are depleting. Eutrophication is on rise and the invasion of alien species is threatening the existence of native species and what the Shell has plan to dump waste in North Sea will make the situations to go much worse.

Another problem this region of North Sea is facing is from Oil and Gas companies. The Oil drills in the North Sea leaks oil from it which results in the covering of surface of seawater with oil which affects the breathing process for the animals living in the North Sea. It also affects the photosynthesis process in water plants because the light does not reach up to them.

When Oil floats on the surface of water, it leads to the suffocation in animals which results in there death. The Oil leakage is also affecting the growth, reproduction in marine life. The Oil leakage is also affecting North Sea Coral Reefs. When oil comes into contact with corals, it can kill them or impede their reproduction, growth, behavior, and development. The entire reef ecosystem can suffer from an oil spill, affecting the many species of fish, crabs, and other marine invertebrates that live in and around coral reefs.

According to the scientist of American geographical Union, Pollution and climate change could pull up to 90% of all coral reefs in next 20 years and in case of north whereas the remaining is fulfilling by the water pollution from dumping of plastic and other waste and leakage of Oil.

Now no media and News Channels in the world are listening to us on this issue. No one is writing on the plan of Shell to pollute the entire sea.

“If today we’re opening the doors to Shell by allowing it to dump its 11,000 tonnes of oil and toxic waste in North Sea then on tomorrow another company will come with the same intention to dump it’s waste in the North Sea”.

And then there will be no doubt that the North Sea will take the shape of a dumping ground. If the world is not listening to us that will be its biggest mistake.

“We’re not treating this crisis as a crisis with the same urgency like the way in which we try to save our life and in a way that it deserves to be treated as a crisis”.

We cannot drink oil so how can we think that animals can drink the oil. No they can’t. Stop dumping your waste in the North Sea and not in North Sea but in every sea because animals don’t deserve this. We all deserve a safer future.

In our Stop Shell campaign that was started with Greenpeace to stop Shell from dumping waste in the North Sea, we came across a lot of challenges. In starting Kaossara SANI Twitter account was restricted but later it unrestricted her account after Twitter faces so many critics.

Next day our account that we created for Stop Shell campaign was restricted by Twitter within two hours of creating. After this we started our digital strikes against this plan of Shell, appealing and requesting Shell to stop and with that we are organizing Global Tweet Storms daily adding to this we also have created our own petition.

In doing all this we are trying and giving our best we can. We’re trying to put our concerns at Global Level with some of the amazing activists, and organizations. But the worst bit is that No One is listening to us even the Media too and no one is caring.

You all should believe and listen to us, not because we’re children’s but because we’re the last generation. That is the reason why to listen us.

We’re still saying Shell clean your mess. The waste should not be dumped into Seas or Oceans.
